Shelby Baker was approved by the Monroe-Gregg School Board on Monday night to serve as the school's next head softball coach. She will take over a program that returns 11 players from last year's team and won a sectional and regional championship before losing in the semi-state to #1 ranked eventual State Champion Tecumseh. Baker has served as the JV coach at Brownsburg for the last 3 seasons where her teams have accumulated a record of 41-14. She is a 2017 graduate of Plainfield High School and was a member of their sectional championship team in 2015. She played collegiately at Indiana University-South Bend, where she was named second team All-Conference twice during her career. "Coach Baker is going to be an excellent addition to our coaching staff," said athletic director Jon Regashus. "She had great success as a player in both high school and college, and has done an outstanding job as an assistant coach in an excellent program at Brownsburg. We have a young team that had an exciting season last spring and she is going to be a great fit for out softball program." "I'm beyond thrilled to step in and lead this program and am grateful for the opportunity," said Baker. "With the recent success the team has had and with the returning talent, the sky is the limit for this group. I'm looking forward to building on the strong foundation already in place and pushing our athletes to be the best version of themselves."
